The biggest advantage of converting to biomass is the high fuel cost savings and generous income available from the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive. By changing to pellets from electric storage heaters, the biomass system will pay for itself in under five years. When you consider the RHI scheme runs for 7 years, Mr Morrison can look forward to receiving an additional financial payback for his investment.
When looking to replace his electric storage heating system, Mr Morrison searched for an alternative solution. When speaking to local experts Korrie Renewables, a biomass boiler along with a new wet central heating system was suggested. This will not only provide low cost and green energy but it will also provide an income through the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive.
With very little space available in the property, the equipment was installed in the garage. A Trianco Greenflame Slim was installed which is perfect for domestic installations. It’s small footprint and clever design allows the boiler to be placed up against a wall This allowed the boiler, an additional fuel store and hot water cylinder to be installed in a line which allowed full use of the garage.
The additional 200kg fuel store means the system only needs topped up every two or three weeks. A tank in tank cylinder will also provide a thermal store to the system. This store reduces the amount of times the boiler ignites which improves efficiency.
