Herz Firematic 199kW Biomass Boiler
To provide heat & hot water to 13 properties
This new system will provide low cost heat for five community buildings and nine residential properties. The wood chips are supplied by a local estate which further increases its green credentials. The Findhorn Foundation can also recieve RHI payments for all heat used by the biomass boiler. This will provide an income over 20 years.
The Findhorn Foundation is a spiritual community based in the Findhorn Ecovillage. It has been home to thousands of residents from more than 40 countries. The Foundation runs various educational programmes and houses many community businesses.
199kW Biomass District
The Findhorn Foundation - Case Study
When the previous plantroom needed replaced, Korrie Renewables were brought in to build the replacement. Korrie built a bespoke Kabin which was construced on site. At the centre of the plant room is a Herz Firematic 199kW biomass boiler. This is automatically fed by woodchips from an adjoining store. All heat produced is stored in two buffer tanks with a combined capacity of 5000 litres which ensures a steady supply of heat.
Korrie also installed four Vokera LPG boilers with a combined capacity of 350kW. These will act as a back up for the biomass boiler and help when the load exceeds 200kW in peak conditions.
