Holly Lodge - Case Study
The biggest advantage of converting to biomass is the high fuel cost savings and generous income available from the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive.
By changing to pellets from oil, the biomass system will pay for itself in under four years. When you consider the RHI scheme runs for 7 years, Holly Lodge can look forward to recieving an additional financial payback for their investment.
Domestic Biomass System
Holly Lodge is a large Victorian family house situated in Strathpeffer. It utilised an oil boiler to provide all the heating and hot water. With a large heat load and changing oil prices, the Client looked for an alternative. They spoke to local experts Korrie Renewables who recommended a biomass boiler system. This would greatly reduce the fuel bills, carbon emissions and provide an income though the Renewable Heat Incentive.
A Trianco Greenflame Eco boiler was installed as it's the perfect model for domestic properties. It contains a generous 221kg hopper to store pellets and only needs filled once a week. With its innovative cleaning system, the boiler has very little maintenance. A modern design provides a modulation between 20 - 100% to enable the boiler to match the heating load of the house.
To further improve the efficiencies of the biomass system, a 500 litre buffer vessel was installed. This acts as a battery which stores the heat produced by the boiler, meaning the biomass system does not need to start and stop as often, thus saving pellets.
