Facts & Benefits
199kW Biomass Heating System
Gordonstoun School is a co-educational independent school for boarding and day pupils. The school has an enrolment of around 500 full-time and 100 day-time pupils. It also has around 100 teaching staff located in the many buildings. Aiming to reduce their costs, the school asked Korrie Renewables to design and build a biomass system for their sports center.
The system was installed in a purpose built plant room. At the centre of the system is a Herz Firematic 199kW biomass boiler which is continually fed with wood chips from the adjoining store. All heat produced by the biomass system is stored in a 4000 litre expansion vessel which provides a constant supply of heat. Korrie also installed an oil boiler which will work in conjunction with the biomass system.
The introduction of the biomass system will provide large fuel savings in addition to reducing the CO2 emissions. The school will also benefit from the Government's Renewables Heating Incentive which will pay the school for each unit of heat used that has been generated from the biomass system.
