Why Solar Thermal?
A solar thermal system provides the opportunity to produce free hot water for your property. A two panel system on a typical three bedroom property can provide around 50% of your hot water needs for free.
The heat is harvested by running water through panels which absorb the heat from the sunlight. Panels are best situated on a south facing roof to provide maximum efficiency. Water is circulated through the panels using a pumping station to a purpose designed cylinder. Both cylinder and pumping station are supplied and installed by Korrie. Solar thermal systems can be installed in almost all roof types and can either be installed in-roof or on-roof.
At Korrie we design each system to suit the client, from a two panel system for domestic hot water to a four panel system to provide hot water for a farm.
What are the benefits?
Solar Thermal systems offer three advantages which are lower fuel bills, an income through RHI and reduced carbon footprint.
A typical two panel system can provide up to 50% of your annual hot water needs! This can provide nearly all your hot water during the summer months but will require additonal support during the winter months.
Renewable Heat Incentive
In order to meet carbon reduction targets, the Government are offering payments for the generation of renewable heat. Payments are made quarterly for seven years. The amount that you will receive will depend on the result of an Energy Performance Certificate. RHI is only available for domestic properties.
Solar thermal panels are classed as carbon neutral as they do not emit any carbon dioxide when they transfer heat from the sun into the water. This results in a reduction of over 300kg of CO2 per year. This is the equivalent of driving 1000 miles in an average car!
If you have a standard two panel system installed with 4 people residing in the property, you will have an average annual solar input of 1384kWh per annum. The Solar Offset Contribution kWh/yr will be the Annual Solar Input/Boiler Efficiency Factor (75%)
The minimum rate for domestic solar RHI will be 19.2p/kWh.
1845kWh/yr x 19.2p/kWh
meaning that your total annual RHI = £354.30
A two panel system can reduce your fuel bill and provide an annual saving starting from around £75.
