22kW (Electrical) Gas Combined Heat & Power (CHP) unit

Korrie were asked to supply an energy solution to reduce the carbon footprint of the new UHI Inverness campus student accomodation.
Korrie worked alongside Robertsons, the main contractor on the project, to provide mechanical and plumbing works throughout the building.
Korrie installed an Energimizer Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system. This is basically an engine which modulates the electrical power output to match the building’s electrical consumption.
The heat generated in the engine block is then utilised to assist the heating installation. The unit has a 51.2kW thermal output and is installed along with a 2500l buffer tank to provide an additional heating source where demand dictates.
The CHP unit has a 3-way catalytic converter & lambda control ensuring a low nitrogen oxide output. The controls enable live monitoring, but also the ability to alter settings remotely, connect to a local network, send email as well as text messages for operating and fault conditions
There are 3 x 100kw gas boilers which are used for back-up during peak loads. Both the CHP and gas boilers are integrated into a pipework header and form part of the completely new mechanical services for the new build student accommodation.
